I've been looking for some good vegan junk food. (I can't always be healthy, right?) Sure, I can still eat chips and cookies, but what about that sometimes food, ice cream? I don't even eat ice cream that often, but if you're in the mood for it, what else do you eat?
With that in mind, I've been sampling several different brands and flavors and have actually found one that is better than any dairy ice cream I've ever had. I kid you not. Ben and Jerry's have nothing on it. Good Karma Rice Cream, in Carrot Cake flavor, is awesome. Seek it out and try some. I also give hearty approval to Soy Dream's Chocolate Brownie, and to Temptation's full line, especially the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough I hunted down at Jenifer Street Market. Temptation has an odd, soy flavor to it, but the aftertaste doesn't linger, the texture is less like cream, and more like an ice, and so it comes across to me as a very clean, refreshing flavor.
The greatest thing about Temptation though, is that they're all vegan in product and politics. I'm not knocking the other companies for dove-tailing the use of their machinery for non-vegan or allergen-containing products, but it is nice to see a smaller company dedicated to one thing and not just the wholesome, organic branch of a larger corporation. (I love Silk and White Wave, but they are a part of Dean which is part of a larger dairy industry, so I know my dollars there don't all stay supporting organic, vegetarian products.)
Anyway, I should really stop eating all of my non-dairy desserts before I'm too stuffed to roll out of my apartment, but I'm happy to know I've got alternatives and I don't have to try every flavor at once. ;)
