For Jeff's father's 60th birthday the whole family (and significant others) went to Chicago to the Rosebud Steakhouse in downtown Chicago. Obviously, a steak and seafood restaurant does not have much in the way of vegan fare, but I opted to ask no questions about the wine and try out the Beefsteak Tomato and Onion Salad and the Vegetable Plate (Chef's Choice.) The waiter we had was very friendly, and everyone else ordered some very nice looking apps and entrees. (And it's always great when I can bust out my culinary know-how and define an obscure menu item.)
The tomato salad was as I expected. A lot of tomato, onion, and basil, with balsamic vinegar and olive oil on the side.

It was more than I could eat of either tomato or onion, but it was fine enough. The hilarity was in the chef's selection to make my entree.

Behold! Four HUGE sides of veggies. Steamed brocolli, sesame green beans (very tasty), peas (very buttery tasting, w/o butter), and corn. Greg ordered a side of steamed asparagus for me as well. Jeff had a huge side of matchstick fries to share. I just about died when this plate came down in front of me.
It wasn't terribly creative, but the initial reaction was that the plate was twice the size of anyone else's food. I guess since I wasn't eating a steak they figured I'd be extra hungry? Or maybe they just wanted to give me my $18.95's worth of food.
Either way, I'd go back with meat-eaters again as it was a pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff, etc., but next time I might want to pop back and give the chef some suggestions. Definitely not vegan-friendly, or even vegetarian-friendly (as there weren't more than 2 other options for the lacto-ovos) but I didn't really expect it to be.
