BBQ Seitan

Step one: Get BBQ sauce. (Make it yourself if you're feeling fancy. FYI, Worcestershire has anchovies in it, they do make vegan versions.) I'm also lucky enough to have an immersion blender (a.k.a. stick/wand/inversion blender) which made pureeing the sauce a cinch. What I didn't use for the BBQ I strained through a wire mesh and saved for later.

Step two: Get seitan. (Again, you can make it if you feel fancy. I did not feel fancy on Saturday.)

Chop seitan and place in crock pot on low with sauce covering for 4 hours or so. (I took a nap.) Then, hot or cold, use it to make a sandwich. Tah-dah!

Next time I may consider baking the seitan in a casserole dish on low in the oven to get a chewier, firmer result. This tasted quite like Willie Street Co-Op's BBQ seitan, but lacked just the right texture.

Next major challenge: Veganized Gyros for which I will make my own seitan to stand in for lamb.

Well, that and introducing my family to non-dairy ice cream at Dad's birthday tomorrow. :) That should be a challenge as well.

This looks delicious! I was toying with the idea of making veg gyros with the Light Life "Gimme Lean" fake ground beef or fake sausage, but I bet the seitan will be great too, can't wait to see the results!
